Mayan languages

The Mayan languages are a family of languages spoken in Mesoamerica, i.e. Guatemala, Belize and southeastern Mexico. They form part of the Mesoamerican language area, and indeed it may have been the power and influence of the Mayan civilisation that caused other language families in the area to share many of the features characteristic of that sprachbund.
