Loukanikos was a street dog in Greece who joined picket lines, strikes, and countless demonstrations against austerity between 2008–2012. He endured tear gas, water cannons and police beatings and always stood firm in his solidarity with the protesters, confronting only the police.

In 2012, he was adopted and entered into a peaceful retirement outside the city of Athens. He died in his sleep in 2014, aged around 10.
