Almaty

Almaty, formerly known as Alma-Ata, is the largest and most economically important city in Kazakhstan, with a population of 2 million people. From 1929 to 1997, it was also the capital city of Kazakhstan. It’s located in the extreme southeast of the country, near the border with Kyrgyzstan.
