winter
By Northern Hemisphere standards Melbourne’s winters are not harsh, but they are damp and cool. A prototypical Melbourne winter’s day would be like: low of 8°C, top of 14°C, southerly wind of 15–25km/hr making it feel like 10°C at the warmest point of the day. Partially cloudy, a shower or two, 0–2mm of rain expected. We do get nastier days than that, too. Overall I find our winters bleak and miserable and every time we reach that point in August where the days start to noticeably lengthen, it’s like a dark cloud has lifted off my shoulders.
