South Africa

South Africa is a country of about 60 million people at the southern end of Africa. My partner Vivian is from an Indian-South African family, and I have travelled to South Africa and visited numerous of his relatives and family friends there. There are great things about the country, for sure, but it’s also a country plagued by sky-high inequality which naturally leads to resentment and crime. Almost three decades after the end of apartheid, the majority of Black South Africans are still living in townships with mostly very inadequate infrastructure and the ANC has implemented a neoliberal agenda (with a side dish of corruption) that, if anything, makes the situation worse. Just tragic considering how the ANC began.
