Took Gidget to the vet today – they removed her stitches and she’s officially free of her cone! She was so excited to catch up on all the paw-chewing she’s missed 🐾

We’ve brought Gidget home after her x-rays. The news is pretty bad, but not catastrophic. She doesn’t only have one luxating patella, but two, as well as bilateral hip dysplasia and arthritis. She’s only 5½! So… she needs to go in for surgery in two Thursdays' time, and until then we’ve been given two pretty heavy duty medications (a pain killer and an anti-inflammatory) to give her every day. No more outside for her, either. Apparently the meds she’s on will make her loopy and any further falls could completely fuck her knee 😿 (That’s not the language the vet used but that’s the impression I got.)

But from the sounds of things, it’s not like the surgery will be some big fix-it either, although it’ll help, and it’ll stop things deteriorating further. It sounds like she’ll need some degree of ongoing care to manage chronic pain issues. The vet who called us earlier today flagged potential bimonthly appointments for some kind of injection, for example, and the vet we talked to this afternoon sort of implied ongoing daily medication. That’s OK with us, of course; it’s our responsibility as cat owners to give her the best quality of life possible. But I just feel sad for her that things have already got this bad… and to think if she hadn’t fallen out of that damn tree we might never have realised there was an issue. Anyway, one step at a time. We’ll get her through to the surgery and then see what the vets say after that.

Viv and I really enjoyed seeing “For a Good Time Call” at the MICF yesterday! (My sister was supposed to also come, but came down with a cold so couldn’t…) I may not be the most impartial of judges since I’ve known Urvi since primary school but if you’re in Melbourne and are interested in smart, funny commentary on mental health, Home and Away and multiculturalism then I’d really recommend this show 👍🏻

It’s turning out to be a busy week with lots of work, which is good in one way ($$$) but is keeping me away from my baby cat (and keeping her without her door-opener and food-dispenser) for many hours at a time. At least we’re getting some quality time in after work ❤️

The #mbfeb challenge continues for an extra few days! Here’s a selfie I took with the one I keep calling the light of my life… my beloved Gidget 🥰

For today’s photoblogging challenge, the day 6 prompt is sport. Viv and I go for different AFL teams, and nearly every year (until last year, for obvious reasons…) we try to go to the Sydney Swans vs Essendon Bombers game. This is us at the SCG one freezing night in May 2019.

Day 4’s prompt is layers, which I found a tricky one 🤔 Melburnians are known for our prodigious wearing of layers in the winter, so I went and found a selfie from July. Under this coat I’d have had a jumper or vest and a proper shirt on! Not to mention my multilayered mask 😷

Since Melbourne’s first lockdown I’ve been growing out my hair (not just because hairdressers were closed, I’d also been feeling like a change from the short hair I’d had for six years). Today after I brushed it, I found it just naturally curling at the end like this! Very cool 😲

Twenty-four days now since Victoria’s last new Covid-19 case, and as of today we’re finally allowed outside without a mask, so long as we maintain social distancing! Was so good to feel the fresh air on my face as we exercised today.
