Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan is a Central Asian country which was formerly part of the USSR. Honestly, most of what I know about it, I learned from (or looked up while reading) the excellent novel The Dead Wander in the Desert, which closely examines the legacy of Soviet colonialism.
