Israel is a small Middle Eastern country which was established through the Nakba of 1948, when 700,000 Palestinians were violently forced out of their homes to make way for Jewish settlers. While Israel has given a “safe haven” to many Jewish settlers who were not really given anywhere else to go after the calamity of the Holocaust or the expulsions of Jews from most of the Arab world, it has also been found by numerous human rights groups to meet the criteria of an apartheid state.
