Croatia
Croatia is a small country in the Balkans which consists of a picturesque coastline (the Dalmatian coast) which is popular with tourists, and a part that extends further inland which includes the capital, Zagreb. During the Renaissance, a number of Romance-speaking city-states existed along the Dalmatian coast; most of these languages are no longer spoken today (only one is left, with a few hundred speakers!) but a certain amount of their vocabularies have entered the dialects of Croatian spoken in those areas. Croatia was formerly a part of the country of Yugoslavia.
