Austria is a small German-speaking country located in and around the Alps, in Europe. In the 19th and early 20th centuries it was in union with Hungary, and the combined country was one of the Great Powers of Europe. After losing the First World War, however, Austria declined in influence. In modern times its capital, Vienna, is known as a great example of urbanism, particularly its great public housing policy.
