Link: “Sunset of the social network”
Article about Facebook’s pivot to becoming a TikTok-like algorithmically-sorted stream of content by strangers (the part where you actually see updates from friends and family is going to get shunted to a secondary tab), and trying to divine what this means going forward. Basically the article thinks that “social media” as we know it is dying, with online socialisation due to move to messaging apps. Not sure how much I agree, but then again, these days my main social media is Mastodon and Micro.blog, neither of which are exactly mainstream, but neither of which have hastened their own decline with “sponsored posts” and algorithms pushing garbage, either…
