Link: “We Need Public Housing, Not Affordable Housing”
Jacobin article on the need for mass provision of social housing that caters to a wide range of income levels. The mixed-income thing is important to prevent projects becoming “ghettoised” and falling into disrepair (because the political class and most voters don’t seem to care how “poor people” live, but they do care if “normal middle-class people” are suffering in squalor). The article points to Vienna, where 60% of people live in such dwellings, as an example of social housing done right.
